Ever Wondered Of Food Phobias!

Phobia is an extreme fear of a certain thing for some people which can send a shiver down their spine or result in a panic attack. But did you know that there are phobias related to food as well. Phobias are completely different than allergies. These food phobias are developed as a result of a bad encounter with food or choking on them.

Let’s get through some of these crazy phobias which are characterized based on the taste or preparations or handling of certain ingredients.

Cibophobia: Fear of food/eating

This is one of the toughest phobias to live with. How can a person be traumatized at the sight of food and still eat it. It’s high time to turn food into pills to make it easier!

Geumophobia: Fear of taste

Any kind of food you consume has a certain taste. We add more seasonings and flavors to enhance it. But what about this phobia which gives a person the fear of taste. Would you enjoy having bland rice and pastas?

Mageirocophobia: Fear of cooking

People having this phobia will never ever enter a kitchen for cooking. The fear of spoiling food while cooking, experimenting with new dishes, playing around with kitchen tools and cutlery or being close to high heat, you name it… theyhave the fear of it all. Mageirocophobes might as well turn their so called kitchens into a study room.

Lachanophobia: Fear of vegetables

Don’t we Moms pressurize our kids or finish their veggies at every meal. But for people who have this phobia, being close to veggies will turn into a scary sight. Consider the kind of nutrition they lack because of it! I’m sure my daughter will claim to have this phobia if she learns of it. What better excuse to run away from bitter gourd (karela)!!

Fructophobia: Fear of fruits

Similar to lachanophobia, people with this phobia stay away from fruits. They won’t even go close to aisles with juices and fruit candies at the supermarket.

Arachibutyrophobia: Fear of peanut butter

I love peanut butter over a perfect toast in the mornings. You definitely know that PB gets stuck to the roof of your mouth while eating. There are a handful of people who dread that and decide to live their lives without those creamy and crunchy PB toasts.

Alektorophobia: Fear of chicken

“It’s just like chicken” is not a phrase to be used in front of an Alektorophobe. You might just become a reason for a panic attack.

Ichthyophobia: Fear of fish

People who fall under this phobia do not want to consume fish at all or be anywhere near it. What will the bones do to me if they stuck is one of the things they worry about. I wonder what will a Japanese do if thif phobia catches on??

Phagophobia: Fear of swallowing

This fear might be very difficult for the sufferers. How can you consume food if you fear to swallow. Phagophobia are often misunderstood as Citophobic. This fear in them often triggers gag reflex like you would see in a little babe.

No hot cup of tea of coffee for these sufferers. No matter how delicious their meal is, they prefer it to be completely cold.

Xocolatophobia: Fear of chocolate

Now who in the world would give up on chocolate!! It’s dreadful to even think about it. What would cheer you up in your lows and bring a smile on a child’s face of not a bar of sinful chocolate. But you will find xocolatophobia who have completely given up on it.

Methyphobia: Fear of alcohol

“Methy” means alcohol in Greek. People with this phobia dread drinking alcohol. They want to stay away from the drinks, the numbing effect and the hangover! All of it!

When you meet a person who always wants to dine alone and avoids company, you might have encountered a perosn with this phobia. Deipnophobes dread dining with others and conversing while eating.
